Susan Bullock sings Broadway!

La chanteuse britannique Susan Bullock est l'une des sopranos dramatiques les plus recherchées au monde. Elle s'est produite dans la plupart des grands opéras du monde et ses interprétations d'Elektra au Metropolitan Opera de New York et à la Scala de Milan, ainsi que ses quatre cycles de "L'Anneau du Nibelung" de Wagner à Covent Garden, Londres, dans le rôle de Brünnhilde, ont contribué à faire d'elle une légende dans le monde de la musique. La carrière de Susan a été reconnue par sa nomination au titre de CBE (Commander of the British Empire) par la feue reine Élisabeth II. Sa remarquable carrière se poursuit avec de nouveaux rôles tels que celui de Judith dans la production primée de 2021 du Château de Barbe-Bleue pour le "Theatre of Sound" et son récent triomphe dans "Breaking the Waves" à l'Opéra Comique de Paris, et elle continue à se produire dans des salles de concert et des opéras du monde entier.

Mais ce n'est pas ce que nous allons entendre cet après-midi ! Dès son plus jeune âge, bien avant d'entendre de l'opéra, Susan était captivée par les chansons des spectacles de Broadway et des films hollywoodiens qu'elle chantait avec son père bien-aimé, Robert. Ces magnifiques chansons d'une époque révolue restent un grand amour pour elle et Susan utilise son remarquable talent musical pour les interpréter pour le public moderne.

Le programme d'aujourd'hui comprend des chansons de Sondheim, Gershwin, Arlen et Koehler, Rodgers et Hart, Rodgers et Hammerstein, Bacharach, Wolf et Landesman, entre autres.

Susan sera accompagnée par le pianiste et compositeur britannique Richard Sisson. La carrière de Richard l'a mené du cabaret (il était l'une des moitiés du célèbre duo "Kit and the Widow" avec Kit Hesketh-Harvey) à l'écriture de partitions pour le théâtre (The History Boys, The Lady in the Van) et à l'enseignement à notre prochaine génération de musiciens talentueux.

She has performed in most of the major opera houses of the world and her performances as Elektra at the Metropolitan Opera, New York and La Scala, Milan as well as her record-breaking four Wagner Ring Cycles at Covent Garden, London, in the role of Brunnhilde have helped make her a legend in the music world. Her remarkable career continues with exciting work in new roles around the world such as Judith in the award-winning 2022 production of Bluebeard’s Castle and her recent triumph in Breaking the Waves at the Opéra Comique in Paris.

But that’s not what we are going to hear this afternoon! As a young child, long before hearing any opera, Susan was captivated by the songs from Broadway shows and Hollywood films which she would sing with her beloved father, Robert. These beautifully crafted songs of a bygone age remain a great love and Susan uses her remarkable musical artistry to interpret them for modern audiences.

On the programme today are songs by Sondheim, Gershwin, Arlen and Koehler, Rodgers and Hart, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Bacharach, Wolf and Landesman among others.

Susan will be accompanied by the British pianist and composer, Richard Sisson. Richard’s career has taken him from cabaret (he was one half of the well-known duo Kit and the Widow with Kit Hesketh-Harvey) to writing scores for the theatre (The History Boys, The Lady in the Van) and to teaching our next generation of talented musicians.
